I've scanned a couple of articles (on websites that don't have an obvious interest one way or the other), and the jury seems to be out as to the benefits of HVOs.

A slightly deeper delve indicates downsides to biofuels. Apparently, they require rather a lot of water to manufacture/process. - Now, what do TPTB keep bleating that we are short of?

Their use also produces nitrogen oxides which can cause smog!

My personal view is that we should never have moved away from petrol for domestic vehicles, and told the EU to 'do one' when they insisted on us fitting catalysts. We had 'lean burn' technology which really was quite clean.

I honestly don't know, Lex. I've had nothing to do with biofuel and limited exposure to diesel.

A quick google indicates claims that it is greener, but the zealots would claim that wouldn't they?

Bin Lorries to Run on Biofuel
It'll cost the taxpayer another £200,000 a year: https://stratfordobserver.co.uk/news/stratford-districts-bin-lorries-to-run-on-vegetable-oil/

You might know, Rebbonk; is boifuel any greener than diesel?
