The supermarket giant has teamed up with the Royal British Legion to interpret a Christmas Day 'truce' in 1914, when British and German soldiers laid down their arms and came together on neutral territory to share greetings, treats, mementoes and even a game of football.

In the true spirit of Christmas, after the game of football a British soldier slips a perfectly wrapped chocolate bar in to pockets of a German soldier.

The poignant advert called 'Christmas is for sharing' aired on British television screens for the first time tonight during an advert break for ITV'S Coronation Street.

It perfectly marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War and shoppers will be encouraged to raise funds and awareness of The Royal British Legion’s work supporting servicemen and women.
