From my dim and distant youth, I remember that a chap had built a car around a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. As you might expect, he was up in court on a speeding charge.
There was a dispute about proof of the driver's identity in court.
The magistrate asked the arresting police officer why he hadn't apprehended the driver at the time of the alleged speeding incident.
The police office mumbled something along the lines of, "I couldn't bl**dy well catch him!"
