You don't do that taxiing! From the BBC website... Quote: Writing on Facebook, it said: "Due to a malfunction of a piece of equipment in the cockpit, the aircraft remained at full power for approximately two seconds longer than intended." That sounds gobbeldygook to me. I'll bet this was human error, and you don't need full power to taxi at a speed to impress the crowds. If an extra two seconds allows that to happen you are cutting things very fine as regards safety. I bet the guys on the flight deck were sh*tting themselves. - They might well do so if there's an AIB investigation. I would suggest they they were very lucky, that looks very close to the road. A few years back at Bruntingthorpe, a Victor actually lifted off on a run like that. |

When I read about this, I did wonder if the driver was actually paying attention/competent. |

Wellesbourne is a licensed airfield, they might have a spot of difficulty trying to brush this under the carpet. Not only are the two on the flight deck going to get a good grilling, but I also wouldn't like to be the senior aircraft controller (SATCO) responsible for the airfield. I think they may well all be facing interviews without coffee over the next few days. Unfortunately, I can see this aiding the owners who want to close the airfield down. According to one report I've read, the 'failed' instrument was the airspeed indicator (ASI). I'm not buying it but will wait it out until we have more details. Meanwhile, I offer up this picture which shows just how silly (and dangerous) it is running an aircraft at speed down that runway when you aren't intending to take off. The risk assessment documentation might make interesting reading... Attachment: The attachment 6a742e02_45f7_407f_8169_050cb686a64b_bcaf2389f8205824fd34017734d18a7aa0c47444.jpg is no longer available
