Leamington care home to mark VE Day with 1940s-style knees-up

THE BUNTING is going up for a 1940s-style knees-up to mark VE Day in Leamington.

Priors House care home, on Old Milverton Lane, is welcoming locals to honour the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8 with those who remember it.

VE Day was celebrated on May 8 1945, after prime minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end.

This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.
