We have events up and down the country but have a stronge membership base in the Oxford, Bucks, Berks and Hampshire area.We are looking for new recruits in the Warickshire area .We are based at Basing House Hampshire and have 1 event their each year either training, recruiting or just socialising.

Have a good look around the site, it will show that though we take the hobby seriuosly we have a great time as well. Our membership comes from all walks of life and all age groups.

Our 2008 season is already looking as it could be busy. Events posted on our website are only those Winchesters will be attending in force, there are many other events organised by other regiments in the English Civil War Society which members can attend. Also when confirmd there will events posted that the whole society attends and these are great for socialising and even better for battles..

ECWS website Front Page - The English Civil War Society

Hello there.

The season is about to start with our 1st event at Lulworth in Devon on the 1st Maybank Holiday. So as it is custom within the regiment we had our annual get together and "bring a dish party" to make and mend new kit for the season ahead.

In the photogallery on our website visit the Make & Mend 2008 link to see a what we get upto at this weekend away.

Have fun come and see us sometime.

Hi

We have a large and varied calendar of events coming up and would welcome anyone interested in taking part in this absorbing hobby.

Visit our website at http://www.marquisofwinchesters.co.uk for more infomation. Contact details can be found on the "joining and Taking Part" page.

All you need to provide to take part is £5 and bring some camping gear - we will for your 1st event provide ALL the kit you require to take part, then with a little training and guidance you will be ready to fight for the King alongside your chums in the Marquess of Winchesters Regiment.

Our latest recruit posted this on our forums about our last event at Lulworth Castle.

"It was a great weekend for me. I had a great time and a big thank you to everyone. You really made me feel welcome. Looking forward to the next event. Already have applied for my shotgun licence. Though I am going to keep on trying the Pike - when my back is better!"

Take care - have fun

Basing House - Old Basing. 27th - 28th September 2008

Winchesters intend to use this opportunity to celebrate a very good season with a good number of new recruits joining the ranks, along with some fantastic events both big and small

Over this weekend we will have a small Living history display, and be staging a few drill displays.

We would also like to use this event as an chance for those local to Basing House who have an interest in taking up the hobby of English Civil War reenactment to come over and have a chat, try on the uniform or even handle a musket or pike. It is not as duanting as it may seem to be a reenactor and it is not a very expensive hobby to take up, we provide lots of help and support to all of our new members.

So hopefully we will see you there, it will be fun.
